Okay, so I’m new-ish to the blogging thing. Not as new to the kid thing. I’ve cared for kids since
I was one. I take pride in my ability to
change a diaper with my eyes closed while playing hide and seek and organizing
a mass lego-building competition {with hidden educational lessons, of
course}. Don’t get me wrong… I’m no
super-nanny. I have my shortfalls. I despise doing dishes. I have roughly 10 bajillion great ideas pinned
on my oh-so organized pinterest boards but how many of those freezer meals will
you find at my house? Or how many of the
perfect, magazine picture “easy” house updates have I done? Umm… zero.
Of either. Back to the point… I kind of have a knack for the nannying/teaching/leading/tutoring thing. I was blessed by God with
this unfathomable, seemingly inexplicable, insanely HUMONGO love for kids. Your kids, her kids, everyone’s kids. I went to the elementary after-school program
as a kid so that I could watch the director’s daughter. I loved kids that much at a young age that I
talked my mom into paying for me to go to after care to provide childcare for
the employee {yes, I am my mother’s only daughter, and am definitely modeled
after her heart, which may be why she agreed to fund this!}. While I have funny kid stories, my family
finds the most humor in my horrid dating failures somewhat interesting
dating history. I’ve probably dated more
men than you know. I have a history of
going through ‘em like … well... something you go through REALLY quickly! Nevertheless, this past spring, God decided
to bless the men of the greater United States by sending me a man that I
could stand bless me with a boyfriend who already has a child! Shortly after I met
my boyfriend, I met
another man who would also change my life more than I could ever imagine. Munchkin is my boyfriend's {then 2, now 3 year
old} son. Loooooooong story short, Munchkin’s
mommy lives far away. She shares custody
with his Daddy. Fast forward to right
now {6ish months later}. The boyfriend and I have
been SO BLESSED to have Munchkin all the time.
My profession as a Nanny allows me to spend LOTS of time with Munchkin and I
am continually reminded of both God’s greatness and the fact that my mother is
a saint when it comes to patience! In a
matter of months, my role has been changed from
nanny-with-a-way-too-great-love-for-seemingly-random-kids to pseudo-mom. Munchkin’s bio momma is still in the picture and is
great, so I’m not taking over her role.
But what else do you call me other than pseudo-mom when I spend 24/7 responding
to comments such as “I had a bad dream
and need to come get in your bed because I couldn’t reach my milk” at 2am? {We’re still working on the concept of “bad
dreams”, in case you couldn’t tell.}
Moral of the story is, I skipped the first 2 11/12 years of this baby’s
life {which I SO wish I could get back}, but now I’m pseudo-momma and I couldn’t
dream of more. I find myself laughing
hysterically as I go through each day with this insanely vivacious 3 year old. Feel
like ya know me yet? Oh, yes, and we
have some 4 legged friends as well. Kylee is my adopted pseudo-child dog. She’s a
bonafide biffle. Then there’s Miss Kitty
{whom I call Lily}. She’s Munchkin’s cat
{can you guess who named her?}. Kylee and
Lily aren’t exactly what I would call biffles with each other, but they
co-exist for Munchkin’s sake! Now
that you know us all, welcome to the family!
I hope you enjoy my musings. They
keep me sane and laughing.
You're a great pseudo-momma! You will love it! And blessings on this crazy thing called life. So thankful that you have a positive spin on all that happens in life. I LOVE you! :)
ReplyDeleteAw thank you for your always insightful words Jos! Love and admire you in your mommyhood {and life in general}!
